About
Practical marketing help from an experienced marketer who believes small businesses deserve better than cookie-cutter agency solutions.

Hi, I'm Scott.
Sometimes you just need an experienced marketer who can look at the big picture, roll up their sleeves, and help you figure it out.
PHILOSOPHY
Marketing should make your life easier.
You don't need to know which service to choose—or even exactly what's wrong with your marketing. That's what the free consultation is for. We'll talk about your business, what's happening with your marketing, and where you're trying to go. From there, I'll help you figure out what kind of support makes sense.
Focus
Do the things that actually matter.
Clarity
Make your message easier to understand.
Action
Turn good ideas into something that gets done.
EXPERIENCE
Marketing should make your life easier.
I've worked across strategy, digital marketing, content, websites, branding, communications and campaign development — giving me a pretty broad view of what makes marketing work.
Marketing Strategy
Turning business goals into practical marketing plans.

Websites, content, campaigns, analytics and more.
Brand & Messaging
Helping businesses clarify what they say and how they say it.
Content
Creating useful, engaging content without making it a full-time job.

Marketing Leadership
Bringing the perspective of an experienced marketing leader to businesses that don't have one in-house.

WHY BLACKBIRCH?
The story behind the name.
BlackBirch started with a name I came up with during one of the strangest, darkest periods of my life—and the world.
It was 2020. The pandemic had turned everything upside down. Businesses were struggling, people were isolated, plans were being put on hold, and nobody really knew what was coming next.
I found myself thinking about the birch tree.
Birch trees have always struck me as a symbol of resilience. They can grow in difficult conditions, adapt to their surroundings, and keep reaching upward. Even after harsh winters, they come back. They bend, they endure, and they keep growing.
That felt like the right symbol for the moment.
Then there was black.
Black represented the darkness of that time—the uncertainty, disruption, and weight that seemed to hang over everything in 2020.
Put the two together and BlackBirch became a reminder of something I wanted to carry forward:
Strength doesn't mean you never face difficult times. It means you find a way to keep growing through them.
That idea still feels right for business.
Small businesses face their own versions of uncertainty all the time. Markets change. Customers change. Plans change. Sometimes you have to adapt quickly with limited time, money, and resources.
You don't need perfect conditions to build something good. You need the ability to adapt, make smart decisions, and keep moving forward.
That's what BlackBirch represents to me. Resilience. Adaptability. And the belief that even in difficult conditions, there's always an opportunity to grow.
